Following 24 years in the fire service at both local and national government level, followed by 25 years in the private sector, Jim is a qualified fire professional with experience in a variety of fire safety roles.
He has served in two local authority fire services and as an instructor at the fire service college, before joining Her Majesty’s Fire Service Inspectorate as an Assistant Inspector.
In 2000 Jim took an appointment with Lloyds Banking Group as the Group fire risk manager and spent 10 years managing all aspects of fire safety in the UK and overseas.
From leaving Lloyds Banking Group Jim worked for the FPA as an associate fire risk assessor for two years, before taking an appointment with the University of the West of England. In 2020 he started work for the FPA undertaking fire compartment surveys as well as his current role as an Compartmentation Surveys Technical Support.
Jim also has extensive experience of risk assessment work across the UK and overseas in a range of risk categories and occupancy types, together with the development and implementation of of policies, procedures standards, and training for large organisations.
