On October 9, Government Business Focus will broadcast Fire Safety in the Public Sector (part two) - an interactive webinar which brings together experts in fire safety to discuss legislation, the roles of responsible persons and how to improve fire safety in buildings operated by the public sector.
Experts from across the public sector fire safety industry join John Field, Vice Chair of Fire Risk Management Group at IOSH to discuss a number of issues including how to select individuals or organisations to undertake fire safety responsibilities and the best approach to selecting a registered company to help meet the requirements of the Building Safety Act 2022. This edition also asks why 2029 could become an annus horribilis for the fire door industry and how to prepare for the challenges that lie ahead.

John Field
With 20 years' experience with the emergency services, John has worked for approximately 5 of those as Watch Manager in the fire safety department with Bedfordshire Fire and Rescue Service as Fire Safety Inspecting Officer. John also worked for Imperial College London as Head of Health, Safety and Fire.
Kevin Underwood
Kevin Underwood is Technical Director of the British Woodworking Federation and has worked in the joinery industry for forty years. During his career he has developed many door and window ranges and stair designs being directly involved in product performance testing and certification.
Ian Bailey
Ian joined the IFE team back in 2022 as the Technical Advisor. With an extensive background as a fire engineer, Ian heads up the role of IFE’s UK government liaison to lead the institution’s work with the Home Office, Department of Levelling Up, Housing and Communities and the building safety regulator.
Dr Andrew Taylor
Dr Andrew Taylor was appointed as ASFP Technical Officer 7 years ago. He has nearly 40 years of experience in the passive fire protection industry.
Stuart Smith
Stuart Smith has been at Blakeney Leigh since 2015 and is a Chartered Project Manager. He has worked on a number of projects across the Refurbishment and New Build sector since joining. He is currently focused on Fire Safety Projects which include external cladding remediation and internal compliance.
Paul Riley
Paul Riley founded My Fire Safety in 2012. His 46 years’ experience in the fire safety began in 1979 with the Royal Navy as an aircraft fire fighter, and progressed through many tangential fields, before embarking on his first solo venture in 1997. Paul is highly motivated, pragmatic, and genuinely passionate about fire safety

Ian is the Managing Director of Independent Fire Safety Services Limited and has extensive experience and knowledge in all aspects of fire door manufacturing, testing, installation, inspection and maintenance. Ian established his own door manufacturing facility in 2002.
